About the Artist

As a life-long resident and California native, I’ve been fortunate to enjoy the natural splendor that abounds here. Raised in San Mateo County, hiking, exploring and enjoying nature was (and still is) an important part of my life.

I try to portray this love of our environment through my paintings- there are so many moments when the colors of light & shadow play across a landscape and will just stop me in my tracks. We live on a beautiful planet.

Pastel is my favorite medium because I can work quickly with it and never worry about destroying a brush, as can be the case with “wet” mediums. I use a variety of hard and soft pastels and layer the colors and values to achieve “Optical Blending”. I make my own sanded-surface painting grounds that work ideally for what I wish to accomplish.

My studio is located in Folsom, CA. I’ve been exhibiting and teaching there for ten years, and it’s a very rewarding experience. I believe wholeheartedly that teaching is a two-way learning adventure. I have been working almost exclusively in the pastel medium for over twenty-five years, and have won many awards for my works.

Art is not a means to an end. One does art from “the inside out”. It is a mirror image of oneself that others look into. There is no “THERE” one gets to with art. It is a limitless, on-going adventure.
